Information for Landowners and Path Users – Three Counties Trot

The Three Counties Trot is a community-led trail running event organised by Billinge Running Club. We take the use of local land and public rights of way very seriously, and we want to assure all landowners and path users that the event is designed to leave no trace and cause no disruption.

Event Duration and Course Use

 • The course will be clearly marked for the event using temporary signage and biodegradable tape.

 • Markers will be placed shortly before the event and will remain in place for no longer than 90 minutes.

 • Runners will pass through each section of the course over a short window of time — typically 10–12 minutes per section.

 • The full course will only be active with participants for around 1 hour.

Post-Event Sweep

 • A designated “sweep runner” will follow the final participants to ensure all signage, markers, and any litter are removed immediately.

 • This process ensures that no equipment, waste, or trace of the event is left behind.

Marshals and Safety

 • Volunteer marshals will be stationed at key points along the route to guide runners and ensure the safety of both participants and other path users.

 • Marshals are also responsible for ensuring that runners remain on the designated paths at all times, avoiding damage or disturbance to surrounding land.

 • All marshals are briefed to give priority and respect to members of the public who may be using the paths during the event.

Respect for Land and Community

 • Billinge Running Club has a strong community ethos, and the event is run entirely by volunteers.

 • We work closely with local councils, landowners, and residents to ensure the route is respectful of private land and shared spaces.

 • No permanent alterations are made to the land, and we maintain a strict “leave no trace” policy.

Giving Back

 • The Three Counties Trot raises funds in support of the British Heart Foundation, our nominated charity for 2025/26.

 • In addition, part of the proceeds are donated directly to Up Holland Parish Council, helping to support local facilities and community initiatives.

The Three Counties Trot is more than just a race — it is a community celebration of our local countryside. We are committed to protecting and respecting the land that makes this event possible, and we deeply appreciate the support of all landowners, path users, and local residents in making it a success.
